mortise depth

I'm using mp to make 1/4" wide mortises, due to the jig thickness I can only get mortises that are about 5/8" deep. My 1/4" spiral upcut bit has an oal of 2 1/2".
does anyone make a longer bit so I can go at least 3/4" deep? Thanks for any help

Forum: General Discussion

router bits

Recently purchased the MP and several router bits. Having real fun making mortise joints for the first time. Have a small problem however.

have some shorter up cut spiral bits I purchased from Whiteside and Woodline. Using one of their 7/16 bits I made several mortises in some red oak. In checking the fit using some of your 7/16 tenon stock I thought they were looser than my prior joints. IAC, I used your 7/16 bit and cut more mortises. This time they were just a TAD tighter I'm talking on the order of 1/64 here but it was noticeable.

Is this just a tolerance difference between manufacturers or are your bits a tad under size for the jig?

Either way I'll adapt because I really like the jig. Will probably order another as a gift for my best friend who is also a woodworker.

Thanx,

Vic

Forum: General Discussion

First Furniture Attempt

Hi all,

I was in the process of building this phone stand, and thought I would have to drill and chisel the mortises. Someone on Woodnet posted the sale on the mortise pal. I purchased one, (I believe it is the original with set screw).

I followed the instructions and it was pretty simple to create the morises for this.

Well, I was going to attach a photo, but I can't quite figure out how to do it.

Forum: General Discussion

New MP Owner

Hi,
I purchased a MP a few months ago (one of the original ones I think, on sale) and just yesterday opened it up and used it for the first time. Despite my dense head and with a very helpful call to customer support, I quickly routed 48 mortises for cabinet door frames for some shop cabinets. All the joints came out perfect and that's a first for me! ;-)
I'm a happy customer..

Forum: General Discussion

user hints and shortcuts

I have recently purchased a Mortise Pal Jig and system, after using home made loose tenon jigs for several projects. It is so easy and accurate that I would recommend it to any level of wordworker. As I was using the new jig, I found several things that helped reduce set up and increase speed and accuracy. I started to wonder what tips or shortcuts other users had also discovered, and if they would like to share these with other users of the tool? If you are interested in sharing or obtaining more information, why don't we use this forum tto post new ideas???

Forum: General Discussion
